Create a Tech-Free Room - DIY Project - Home Improvements!

Simple Room Project
There are many books available which deal with digital detoxing and designing your home for better life.

For individuals who identify as targeted individuals, creating a safer, tech-free room in your home can be an empowering and therapeutic step and a great DIY project!

Not only can such a room reduce your exposure to potential harassment, it can create a super space for relaxation, reading, creativity, and just being offline.

Many people now seek alternatives to the busy online, connected digital world. Being addicted to one's smartphone is now a well-recognised phenomenon of modern day life and living. Some people are now trying to kick this habit and get some traditional life back again by spending less time on their tech and their devices.

Some may choose a spa day, some may choose an 'offline', adventure orientated holiday, some choose to abstain from their tech for a certain length of time, some choose more traditional ways to help put their phones down such as doing a jigsaw, doing some cooking or doing some reading. I've seen some people on the internet who have created libraries in their home. By utilising just one room in their home, they create a simple and super space with bookshelves, lots of books, and minimal or zero tech! What a great idea!

I, for one, am really bad for not leading more of an offline life. I always have my Smart TV switched on listening to the news! Laptop on! Phone on! I even have Alexa on as I use it every day to set reminders for myself (mainly for when I'm cooking something in the oven). If someone is getting paid (or doing it for free) to listen in to learn what pizza I am making for tea, or listen in to when I go to the toilet for a number 2, then they really do have a dull, sick and immoral life. Their mam 👩 obviously never taught them to get a proper job to pay their bills 💰.

This tech-free room project is a project which anyone of us can do; targeted or non-targeted, DIY skills or very little DIY skills, a little bit of time or a lot of time, minimal spend required or more spend as you wish. It's a simple project and a great idea for sure and the choice is all yours!

So, here's a few tips which might be of help to get you started:

- Choose a suitable room which may offer better soundproofing (maybe in the middle of the house somewhere, in the attic, in the basement etc).

- Completely declutter the room and start with a blank canvas.

- Paint the room - ceiling and walls - to give it a fresh look and a warm, soothing appearance.

- Replace the curtains with warm, colourful, soothing, bright, pleasant curtains.

- Keep the room simple and minimalistic; don't overcrowd the room with furniture and odds and ends. Keep it to a few main things that you need.

- Have it as tech-free zone. If you want to have some tech, go for tech which is more traditional and which is battery operated and has no WI-FI or Bluetooth connectivity - such as this basic battery operated radio from XHDATA which provides FM and MW radio stations via a traditional, pull-out antenna.

- Add greenery, such as these Aloe Vera plants, to help reduce stress and improve air quality.

- Go for things which don't plug into the mains, such as these fantastic Rechargeable, Cordless Table Lamps.

- If you desire electromagnetic protection in your room (not covered here), there are sites which provide information on this.

- If it makes you feel more comfortable, consider adding some form of lock to the door so that it can be locked when it is not in use.

Remember, using a smaller room for this project means you can achieve the project in less time and with less money as well as being able to keep it tidier and more manageable. A smaller space also usually means a cosier space 👍
