There is a saying in Britain - "Keep Calm and Carry on"
It comes from a motivational poster created by the UK government in 1939, just before World War II. The poster was meant to boost public morale in case of invasion or bombing. Interestingly, it was never widely displayed during the war and only resurfaced in the early 2000s when a copy was rediscovered in a bookshop.
Since then, it’s become an iconic phrase associated with British resilience, understatement, and the “stiff upper lip” attitude.
It is this iconic phrase which is also highly appropriate for all genuine targeted individuals - the importance of keeping calm and carrying on.
There are 2 fundamental parts to this saying.
The first part of the phrase is to keep calm.
Keeping calm is essential. A composed and calm mind is your greatest asset.
The initial data from my X polls research confirms what many targeted individuals go through. That is, they are subject to a range of hideous acts; everything from being slandered and harassed, right through to being isolated and barred from opportunities. When faced with such horrendous acts it is important to always remain calm and composed.
Take harassment for example.
Baiting is a common tactic used in harassment towards the victim. When the harasser baits the victim, they are trying:
- to provoke a visible reaction they can later use as “proof” you’re unstable, abusive, or violent.
- to escalate the situation or justify further harassment, exclusion, or legal/disciplinary action.
- to distract and destabilise you emotionally so you make mistakes, withdraw, or lose support.
- to create material for smear campaigns (screenshots, clips, quotes) they can share publicly.
- to test boundaries and find what breaks you so they can exploit it again.
When someone goes out of their way to bother or provoke you, one of the most powerful responses is to carry on as normal. By staying focussed on your own life and continuing with your plans, you deny them the reaction they crave. Dwelling on their acts of cruelty or injustice only feeds their purpose, while your calm persistence protects your peace of mind and shows strength.
Every time you choose to get on with what you’re doing instead of being pulled into their negativity, you take back control. Their behaviour becomes background noise, while your actions and progress remain centre stage.
So, don't forget to "Keep Calm and Carry on" - a phrase as good today as it was 85 years ago!
