Some General Safety Tips for Genuine Targeted Individuals (TIs) when Online

Unfortunately, not everyone online claiming to be a TI is genuine. Some perpetrators deliberately infiltrate our communities to gather intel, sow confusion, or manipulate.

Here are a few practical ways to protect yourself while connecting with other TIs:

Keep Things General

Avoid sharing specifics about your own targeting methods or situation. This information can sometimes be turned against you. Keep conversations high-level.

Keep Your Personal Details Private

Never give out your real name, exact location, address, phone number, or financial info. Genuine support doesn’t require your personal data.

Watch for Narrow Repost Patterns

If an account only ever reposts from the same small group of 4–6 TI pages and rarely (or never) shares content from other legitimate voices, ask yourself: Why such a narrow focus? Real community tends to be broader than one tight circle.

Beware of Private Details Mirroring

If you mention something in your own home or share a private thought/conversation online, and shortly afterward people you follow start posting or talking about those exact details publicly, treat it as a potential red flag. Limit sharing, step back, and consider unfollowing or blocking the person(s) involved. You don’t owe anyone continued access to your space if your private information feels misused. Protecting your peace and privacy comes first.

Check for Consistency Across Platforms

Genuine TIs usually show deep, consistent experiences and behaviour across platforms. Be wary of people who flip stories or contradict themselves. For example, someone who publicly claims total distrust toward all Targeted Individual organisations on one platform, yet follows and actively converses with those same organisations on another, is a red flag.

Trust Your Gut

If something consistently feels off or manipulative, it’s okay to step away. Screenshot patterns if needed and protect your energy.

Real TI support grows through mutual respect and vigilance - not tight echo chambers or rushed trust.

Stay safe out there.
